iPhone fun
The Mrs just got herself an iPhone, but how to get her contacts from her Nokia?
Here’s the fun bit…
- Configured her email (etc) to work via Exchange (yes, I run an Exchange Server 2007 at home for our emails)
- Left her with her iPhone in the lounge room watching TV (So You Think You Can Dance) while I headed to the study
- Plugged her Nokia in and sync’ed via PC Suite to Outlook
At this point she came in to see what I was doing (and that I was still alive etc).
- Mrs: What’cha doin?
- Me: Your contacts
- Mrs: Oh. Do you need my iPhone?
- Me: Have you got it there?
- Mrs: Yeah. (pulls it out of her pocket and tries to hand it to me)
- Me: No, no. Just check your contacts
- Mrs: Hey, they’re all here
- Me: (grinning) Yep.
Man, don’t you just love it when technology actually works?
I really love the job Apple have done integrating ActiveSync into the iPhone. Something that others could really learn from (yeah, I’m looking at you Blackberry!)

Get Trucked!
OK, before I enrage any truckies out there…
- I have a heavy vehicle licence
- I do think Jeremy Clarkson did go a little too far with the comment he made about British lorry drivers
Now…
I just love it when I’m driving down a three-lane highway (Springvale Rd specifically) in an 80km/h zone, and all three lanes a putling along at 55km/h. Generally the reason for this is that somewhere up ahead there are three trucks all next to each other blocking anyone’s attempt to overtake and do a speed anywhere near the “speed limit”. It’s just plain discourteous. There must be something that can be done.
Now, don’t get me started on people who leave 2½ car-lengths between them and the car in front when they’re sitting at a red light (especially when that means that other drivers can’t access either the left or right-hand turn lanes).

Windows 7 crashes Microsoft
I find it a little amusing that sooooo many people want to get their hands on the beta release of Windows 7, that the demand has overwhelmed Microsoft’s web servers.
Are there really that many dissatisfied Vista users?

VoIP
VoIP is coming… eventually
Crossway’s antiquated PABX will soon be history. There is one potential challenge though…
Getting the Cisco 7940 handsets working with the HP Procurve 2610 switches. Seems like the Ciscos don’t support the 802.3af PoE standard, but it does look like the HPs can support the Cisco pre-standard.
